Experience
I’ve had real world, practical experience in a variety of businesses and industries. I also taught college English for eight years. My background in business and the classroom has given me a store of knowledge that I can bring to your business, publication, or organization.
Writing Experience
I have written for several online publications and blogs that cover a variety of topics from the political to the personal.
American Issues Project
I currently write a weekly column for the non-profit organization American Issues Project. AIP promotes the conservative principles of strong national defense, individual freedom and liberty, as well as the governmental policies that encourage entrepreneurship: limited government, free markets, low taxes, and reduced regulations on businesses. You can read my American Issues Project columns here.
Pajamas Media
In addition to writing at AIP, I have written a number of articles for Pajamas Media, an online news outlet. The majority of my writing at PJM has been about conservative policies and principles. One of my favorite pieces, however, wasn’t about politics at all, but something very personal. My editor at PJM asked me to capture what it was like when Spring finally arrived to the northwoods of Michigan after a hard winter. You can read it here, and as you’ll see from the comments, the piece struck a chord with many readers.
Washington Examiner
I have had several op-eds published at the Washington Examiner, a Washington DC news publication:
Americans Don’t Want More Government Health Care
Obama Cancels the Economic Crisis
Blogs
Wizbang is a group blog that is comprised of many talented right of center political writers. I have written posts about domestic policy and issues, constitutional issues, foreign policy, national defense and military issues as well as others.
Kim Priestap’s Political Insights is my personal blog where I write about politics, culture, government, and current events.
Up North Mommy is another personal blog where I chronicle my wacky and wonderful life as a wife to my husband Steve and a mom to my three goofy kids and two dogs. It’s a journal of sorts, so it provides me the opportunity to write freely and in a style that is much like stream of consciousness.
Blissfully Domestic is a resource for women who love being wives and mothers.
Business Experience
Libbey Inc., Toledo, OH
Libbey Inc is the largest glassware manufacturer in America. Go into any retail housewares store and you’ll probably see Libbey’s products on the shelves. Restaurants in America have been using Libbey’s glassware for decades because they are durable and economical with a variety of designs to match any theme.
One of my main responsibilities at Libbey was marketing glassware products that were sold to the foodservice industry. The most important aspect of that job was producing the foodservice glassware catalog. Libbey is the leader in the foodservice glassware industry, so many restaurant owners and operators not only purchase Libbey products but also usually have a copy or two of Libbey’s glassware catalog to use as a resource. Even if a restaurant isn’t current Libbey customer, Libbey’s catalog is probably still in its offices.
In addition to the catalog, I wrote the copy for many of the company’s product sell sheets, brochures, and new product bulletins for sales reps. However, my writing wasn’t limited to selling products. Libbey used my writing skills in its Annual Report as well.
Matrix Technologies, Maumee, OH
Matrix Technologies is a one stop shop that provides the industrial manufacturing marketplace with a variety of solutions including facility design, process design and control, and information systems. While at Matrix, I collaborated on the development of sales and marketing brochures for all departments and disciplines, including process control systems for glass manufacturing, steel manufacturing, and food and agriculture manufacturing companies.
BOC Gases, Maumee, OH
BOC Gases is a multi-national corporation that provides gases for the industrial marketplace. I worked for a division of BOC that provided process control systems glass manufacturers. My duties included collaborating with engineers and system designers to write technical documents including control instructional handbooks and pamphlets for both hot and cold end process systems.
Teaching Experience
I was an adjunct instructor at community colleges in Ohio and Michigan: The University of Toledo Technical College, Owens Community College, and Monroe County Community College. At UT, I taught Basic Writing, which focused on paragraph development: topic sentence development, coherence, organization, unity, and sentence structure. At Owens Community College and Monroe Community College I not only taught Basic Writing but also Composition I, which focused essay development, and Composition II, which included literature interpretation and research paper writing.
